Xiaomi Black Shark 3, 3 Pro teased to feature 65W fast charging, triple cameras and magnetic connector

Black Shark 3 is scheduled to be unveiled on March 3 in China, and the company has shared many teasers in the time leading up to the official announcement. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun shared a video on Weibo along with other teasers that reveal certain key aspects of the upcoming gaming phone by Xiaomi-backed Black Shark. Interestingly, Jun’s post hints at the existence of a Black Shark 3 Pro variant as well, which could mean that we’re looking at two phone launches on March 3. The regular Black Shark 3 comes with a 4,720mAh battery while the “Pro” model has 5,000mAh battery capacity to boot. Both the variations of the Black Shark 3 support 65W fast charging that Jun claims will be able to charge the phone from 0% to 60% in a matter of 15 minutes. The post also reveals a dual-cell design for the battery pack along with support for charging via a magnetic connector. In the poster shared on the social media platform, the charging time of Black Shark 3 is compared to IQOO 3, with the latter going up to 2220mAh in 15 minutes of 55W fast charging. The magnetic connector seems to solve a rather common pain-point of gaming phones, in that you can use the magnetic pogo p...

Put down your axes and sweet rolls, people, and get ready to read. Did you know

Put down your axes and sweet rolls, people, and get ready to read. Did you know that our beloved Skyrim is going to be nine years old this fall? It seems like just yesterday we were all getting our first dragon souls and discovering the joy of shouting goats off of mountain tops. Frankly, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of Skyrim. There’s still so much that I haven’t done! So much chaos I haven’t created! But whether like me you’re just looking to add more adventures like Skyrim to your life, or you looking to fill that Skyrim-sized void in your heart because you’ve discovered all there was to discover and killed all there was to kill, this list of books like Skyrim is brimming with enough heroes, magics, creatures, and battles to keep you turning pages long after the dragonfire burns out.** This, folks, is THE Skyrim book (at least as far as I’m concerned). If you read only one book on this list, make it Tucholke’s The Boneless Mercies. I put off buying my own copy of Skyrim for the longest time because I had other games I hadn’t played half to death that I wanted to finish first. But reading The Boneless Mercies gave me such a craving. The first thing I did when I finished t...

Salmon producer Marine Harvest VAP (UK) has achieved annual energy savings of £21,000 after Atlas Copco

Salmon producer Marine Harvest VAP (UK) has achieved annual energy savings of £21,000 after Atlas Copco updated its compressed air system with new technology. By downsizing from a 45kW compressor to a GA22VSD+ rotary screw compressor, the salmon producer has realised a 76% energy saving and a 30% reduction in service costs.   Atlas Copco conducted an iiTrak audit to identify possible energy and service savings. The audit confirmed that the existing compressor was significantly oversized relative to the current and predicted future production demand. The compressors were originally installed as the principal operating power source for pneumatic production demands. Brian Banks from Marine Harvest VAP explained: “The original compressors were sized during the factory planning phase to deliver air as a pneumatic power source for process machinery. However, fitting alternative power sources meant that we subsequently needed a reduced supply capacity to feed servo mechanisms. This reduction in pressurised air requirement meant that it became uneconomic to continue with higher capacity machines.” This experience is not uncommon within industrial applications when system audits compare ...

Hollywood Is Ready to Take Pool Safety and Home Security Beyond the Boundaries of Conventional Design—You Should Too

Grit Daily sat down with Jordan Goodman, the CEO and founder of Aquaview Fencing, who takes backyard/pool renovation and safety very seriously. Growing up (or settling down), think back to your backyard. If you were lucky enough to have a pool, where was it situated? Was it in an open-area or enclosed by a fence of some sort? Today, as home renovation and backyard designs have continued to become increasingly more sophisticated, safety remains a major concern, especially with young children and/or pets running around. Which is why we are now seeing Hollywood’s finest partner up with home renovation/relocation companies. Last year, we spoke with Dustin Black, the CEO and founder of Black Tie Moving, a Nashville-based relocation company, which has grown to become the fastest growing moving company in America. Oh, and utilizing the power of celebrity endorsement, Black’s business partner is none other than Rascal Flatt’s Gary LeVox. When it comes to home renovation and relocation, security is the main concern, because we all can relate to that (hopefully) one-time horrific relocation story where you had to incur tens of thousands of dollars-worth of damage to furniture or artwork. ...

Eating a vegan diet is one of the single biggest ways to reduce your impact on

Eating a vegan diet is one of the single biggest ways to reduce your impact on the planet. And you don’t lose anything by cutting out all that meat! Adults only need 46 to 58 grams of protein a day, and that’s a recommended dietary allowance you can easily satisfy with a plant-based diet. You can also consult the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s starter kit. It includes tips for everyday people, athletes, pregnant people, and kids. Or check out Vegan Health’s detailed tips from scientific literature for every body type. But I get it: Not everyone has a handy list of the most-protein-rich vegan foods (and if you think like me, you’re also wondering which of those foods are plastic-, gluten-, and soy-free and don’t have any traces of palm oil).  Well now you do! Here are protein-rich and really tasty vegan eggs, dairy, and meat for your grocery list.  You can order delivery in totes and containers that these stores will then pick up and reuse. When I asked, they said they’re working to allow customers to filter by vegan, organic, and palm-oil-free products, and they plan to work with their suppliers to ship in reusables.  As consumers, we can demand more climate-fr...

Emergency dispatchers can pinpoint calls from landlines and get rescue equipment rolling immediately. But wireless calls? Don’t bet your life on it. The Federal Communications Commission estimates that more than 10,000 wireless callers die each year because dispatchers can’t determine their exact location, yet the commission recently approved new rules that fail to fix the problem, according to the Center for Public Integrity, a not-for-profit investigative journalism organization. The problem is that the technology used by AT&T, Verizon and other wireless carriers can provide reasonably accurate location information outside. But if you’re in a large apartment or office building, it’s a different story. The Public Integrity report told the tale of Joan Lantz, a 71-year-old South Carolina woman who called for help when she developed trouble breathing. She was unable to give 9-1-1 dispatc...

Fast 3D Printing With Raspberry Pi — But Not How You Think

Although we tend to think of 3D printers as high-tech toys, most of them are not especially powerful in the brain department. There are some exceptions, but most 3D printers run on either an 8-bit Arduino or some Arduino variant with a lot of I/O. There are a few 32-bit boards, but if you grab a random 3D printer, its brain is going to be an 8-bit AVR running something like Marlin or Repetier. It isn’t uncommon to see a Raspberry Pi connected to a printer, too, but — again, in general — it is a network interface that handles sending G-code to the 8-bit controller that runs the stepper motors. Would it make more sense to do things like parse G-code, map out curves, and set accelerations in the relatively powerful Raspberry Pi and relegate the 8-bit AVR to just commanding motors and heaters? [KevinOConnor] thinks so, and he wrote Klipper to prove it. Klipper is mostly written in Python and it does most of the functions of traditional 3D printing firmware. It communicates with the onboard microprocessor by providing a schedule of when to do what tasks. The microprocessor then handles the timing and things like motion control for the axes and extruder. Klipper can control multiple m...
